Wheels forging

Technolit Int. forges different types of wheels for machines and mechanisms used in the machine building industry. The forgings of wheels vary from 60 mm (2.3622 in) to 900 (35.433 in) mm in diameter, from 35 mm (1.37795 in) to 600 mm (23.622 in) in height and weight of up to 1 metric ton (0.9842 long ton or 2204.6 lbs).

The wheels are forged of different grades of steel such as 45, 20, 35, 40, 40, 402, 42, 18 and others.

The cutting of blanks is the initial stage of the forging. The blanks are cut either by a BAND SAW or a FLAME cutter. Technolit Int. operates two types of band saws: MYT-1 (for the processing of blanks of the maximum diameter 400 mm (15.748 in)) and MYT-2 (for the processing of blanks of the maximum diameter 600 mm (23.622 in)).

The temperature of wheel forging depends on the blank steel grade. For example, the steel grade 45 is heated to 1200 +50 C (2192 -122 F). The forging temperature for the blanks of this steel grade ranges from 1250 -50 C to 750 +50 C (2282 -122 F to 1382 +122 F). The forging temperature for the blanks of 12 tool steel ranges from 1140 -30 C to 850 +30 C (2084 -86 F to 1562 +86 F), when heated to 1140 -30 C (2084 -86 F) accordingly.

The forging of parts is carried out, depending on a blank weight, by a steam-air hammer with the weight of the falling part of 1, 2 or 3 metric tons (0.9842, 1.9684, 2.9526 long tons or 2204.6, 4409.2, 6613.8 lbs).

Blank heat treatment is the pre-finishing stage of forging. Depending on the steel grade NORMALIZING or ANNEALING shall be applied for the heat treatment.

The turnaround time depends on the amount of blanks to be manufactured (forged) and the specification complexity.

Acceptance by the Quality Control Department of the works completed is the final stage preceding the forgings delivery to the customer. All blanks are subject to allowances according to GOST 8479-70.
