Single-diameter shafts and axles forging

Technolit Int. produces single-diameter forged shafts and axles that are used in various industries of the machine building, and their application varies from garden carts to railway cars and hoisting cranes. The maximum size of a shaft or axle may have up to 400 mm (15.748 in) in diameter, up to 3000 mm (118.11 in) of height and 1500 kg (3306.9 lbs) of weight.

Steel grades used in forging of single-diameter shafts and axles are 45, 20, 35, 40, 40, 402, 42, 121810 and others.

The cutting of the shaft or axle blanks is the initial stage of the forging. The blanks are cut either by a BAND SAW or a FLAME cutter depending on the intensity of the equipment use. Technolit Int. operates two types of band saws: MYT-1 (for the processing of blanks of the maximum diameter 400 mm (15.748 in)) and MYT-2 (for the processing of blanks of the maximum diameter 600 mm (23.622 in)).

The temperature of shaft or axle forging depends on a blank steel grade. For example, the steel grade 45 is heated to 1200 +50 C (2192 -122 F). The forging temperature for the blanks of this steel grade ranges from 1250 -50 C to 750 +50 C (2282 -122 F to 1382 +122 F).

The forging of parts (shaft or axle) is carried out, depending on a blank weight, by a steam-air hammer with the weight of the falling part of 1, 2 or 3 metric tons (0.9842, 1.9684, 2.9526 long tons or 2204.6, 4409.2, 6613.8 lbs).

Blank heat treatment is the pre-finishing stage of forging. Depending on the steel grade NORMALIZING or ANNEALING shall be applied for the heat treatment.

The turnaround time depends on the amount of blanks to be manufactured (forged) and the specification complexity.

At the final stage the Quality Control Department accepts the works completed. All shaft or axle blanks are subject to allowances according to GOST 8479-70.
